Self-Harm Awareness (SHAescc)

Description
[This course will take you about 1 hour 30 minutes to complete.]

Caring for someone who self-harms is difficult. If it is something you have experienced, you are likely to know how helpless one can feel seeing someone's distress manifesting through self-harm.
The writer of this course has first-hand experience with self-harm. While the course is based on evidence and research from leading institutions, the writer also shares her own experience of self-harm, and what she wishes her family and friends had known about self-harm.

In this course, we will discuss:
- The process of self-harm, and different types (ligature, cutting, etc.)
- Why some children are prone to it
- How to support them

Note – this course covers lots of sensitive material and can be triggering. Please make sure you are in a good headspace before taking this course. If at any point it feels like it’s too much, stop. You will be able to resume the course where you left it later.
